When to apply Raj Blend stone sealer

This question was asked by - Parm
i HAVE JUST HAS HAD 100SQM OF RAJ BLEND SANDSTONE LAYED IN THE GARDEN. THE JOB IS COMPLETE AND NOW AM LOOKING TO GET THE PAVING SEALED. TWO QUESTIONS WHEN SHOULD I APPLY THE SEALANT AFTER A NEW LAY WHAT SEALANT COULD BE RECOMMNDED FOR A NATURAL MATT FINSIH AND ONE FOR A WET LOOK. I HAVE SEEN ON THE PAVING EXPERT SITE THAT Heavy Duty Sealer IS A GOOD OPTION BUT I WANT TO BE SURE.

I have put links below to 3 suitable sealers, The water based one is a matt finish without altering the colour, the Stone and slate will give a matt/satin finish and enhance the colours and the Heavy duty is the same as the Stone and Slate but will give a satin/gloss finish.

You are best to leave it for 3-4 weeks after finishing to allow the mortar to completely dry before applying a sealer. Stone &17680 Slate Protector (SSP) Water Based Sealer Matt (WB25) Heavy Duty Sealer (HD) Drew Palin

Concrete sealer for garden ornaments

This question was asked by - Jennifer Morton
Hi, I'm trying to find a concrete sealer I can put over concrete ornaments I've made and painted with masonry paint, preferably something that gives uv protection and will be non yellowing and dry with anything from Matt to light sheen, not full gloss, for you sell anything that fits the bill? Many thanks and best wishes Jenny

Hi

As you have use a paint on the concrete I would suggest using a water based sealer rather than a solvent based one as the later could remove the paint. https://www.advancedsealingsolutions.co.uk/Water-Based-Sealer-Matt.html We have a range of colours designed specifically for colouring concrete, if you are interested please check out www.adsealcolours.co.uk. Granite patio impregnator

This question was asked by
- Charlie McNicoll

I had a garden patio recently laid with granite slabs. I want to prevent staining, grease, oil, ink etc but do not want a surface sealer, I need an impregnating sealer that will not require frequent relaying. I was recommended Advanced HD sealant , but your web site says it gives a surface sheen and I do not want any change to the natural granite appearance. What would you recommend and can you provide a sample to try on a small area?

Unfortunately what you are asking for, the sealer not to show but last a long time, is kind of an either or situation. Invisible sealers such as you are asking for are more like a stain guard rather than a sealer and as such offers little to no protecting agains wear, so needs regular re-coating, a sealer on the other hand will last years before needing re-coating but will leave a finish to the surface.

I think your best bet might be to try the Water based matt sealer (link below) this will offer the longevity you want with minimal change to the appearance when the stone is dry.

What quantity of sealants will I require for sealing my driveway?

This all depends on how porous the paving is, but as a general rule of thumb for applying 2 coats a 25ltr drum will cover approx: block paving 50m per drum: pattern imprint 70m2: flags/slabs 70m2 and tarmac 65m2. These are approximate guidelines only and actual figures may vary.

Endura Faux Fusion

This question was asked by - gary heavisides
I am interested in using this product and was wondering what is the best way to apply this product, I noticed that you sell special brushes to apply stains but I wanted to know if you can apply Endura Faux Fusion with a roller, also does it need to be sealed after application?

The Endura can be applied by brush, roller or sprayer, and yes it does need sealing after, ideally with the water based sealer

Patio sealer

This question was asked by - Rob parsons
I have an Indian sandstone patio layed but not sealed yet. I was looking at you wb 25 and wanted to confirm its suitable. My main concerns are to protect it from food, oil, stains and so that the frost doesn't get at. I don't want to change the appearance of the stones. Would this be the right product for me or can you recommend something g else in your range.

Yes the WB25 will be fine for what you are looking to achieve, it gives great surface protection from wear and stains but has very little affect on the appearance.

Application of Smart Colour for a concrete drive

This question was asked by - Peter Clifford
I would like to colour a newly laid 30 square metre concrete drive with Smart colour (Licorice). Please could you advise the amounts of prep material, colour and sealer (satin finish) required for this. Many thanks

As the concrete is new you will need to leave it a minimum of 30days before trying to stain to let the concrete cure.

Before staining you will need to acid wash the surface to remove any loose dusty surface from the concrete using the Eco acid If you are looking to apply a single solid colour to the concrete I would recommend using the Solid colour stain (medium grey) you will need 1 x 32oz kit to do your area. The solid colour stain will be much quicker, easier and cheaper than the smartcolour (you would need at least 3 x 32oz bottles to get a solid uniform colour). Then finally to seal I would suggest the WB25. I have listed all the relevant products below, I would highly recommend watching the installation videos before you start the job. http://www.adsealcolours.co.uk/Eco-Acid-profiler.html http://www.adsealcolours.co.uk/Solid-Colour-Stain.html http://www.adsealcolours.co.uk/WB-25-eco-friendly-satin-concrete-sealer.html http://www.adsealcolours.co.uk/Application-Brushes.html Drew Palin

Imprint paving

This question was asked by - E.McKone
I have very dark almost black imprint and I hate it, can i make it lighter?

Yes it is possible to make dark paving light,

First you would need to remove the sealer from the surface using the Easy strip (link below). Once this has been done you need to jet wash the surface, then, when dry apply the Eco acid solution to profile the surface to ensure it is porous enough for the stain to soak in, there is a video on the website explaining this, Next when it is dry (90% dry is fine) you can apply the Solid colour stain using the applicator brush following the instructions (included in the box and there is a video on the site). If you are happy with the colour you can stop there. If you want the 2 tone/antiqued effect of imprint concrete you can achieve this by using a darker Smartcolour diluted to 1:6 with water, all you have to do is spray an even coat all over the surface, then as it dries it will settle in the deeper areas to create the effect, as it is drying, if you think it is still to dark on the main surface, misting water over the surface will make more of the colour run off the high spots. Once it has all dried (ideally 24hrs+) you will need to seal the drive using either the WB25 or WB34. http://www.adsealcolours.co.uk/EasyStrip-1000-Coating-Remover.html http://www.adsealcolours.co.uk/Solid-Colour-Stain.html http://www.adsealcolours.co.uk/Smart-Colour-Stain.html http://www.adsealcolours.co.uk/Eco-Acid-profiler.html Drew Palin

Which sealant won't change the appearance of my indian sandstone floor?

This question was asked by - Sam Oliver
I have been reviewing your website details and unsure as to the best purchase I have purchased a barn conversion in the south of France and the ground floor has Indian sandstone that was sealed about 7 years ago. It looks and acts completely porous, no sheen or sign of sealant . I do not want to significantly change the appearance of the stone I'm torn between the following products http://www.advancedsealingsolutions.co.uk/Heavy-Duty-Sealer.html http://www.advancedsealingsolutions.co.uk/Invisiseal.html or http://www.advancedsealingsolutions.co.uk/Stone-and-Slate-Protector.html Your advice would be very welcome

Of the ones you have looked at,

the Heavy duty will enhance the colours and give a gloss finish (wet look). The Stone and slate will enhance the colours but leave a matt finish with 1 coat (like when the paving is damp) or an eggshell/satin finish with 2 coats. The Invisiseal is a completely invisible coating but is more like a stain guard so offers very little in the way of wear protection. I would probably suggest using the WB25 (link below), this will have very little effect on the appearance of the paving but offers surface protection too. http://www.advancedsealingsolutions.co.uk/WB-25-Sealer.html Drew Palin

Indian Stone Sealer

This question was asked by - Ian Sutcliffe
l have had a patio laid two years ago with Indian stone and didn’t realise how easily it stained. I am going to clean it this spring and would like to see if l can protect it with a sealer but not darken the colour if possible, could you please advise, approximately 85 square meters area,

As you are looking to keep the paving looking as it does when it is dry I would recommend the Water based Matt sealer (link below) this will have very little effect on the appearance but will offer a good amount of protection for the stone.

Best sealant for Indian Stone?

This question was asked by - Alan Buxton
which sealant is best for indian Stone solvent based or water based?

It all depends on how you want the sealed paving to look, a solvent based sealer will enhance the colours and leave the paving looking like it does when it is damp, whereas the water based sealer will leave the paving looking more like it does when the paving is dry.

What is the best sealer to use for a resin bound aggregate driveway?

This question was asked by - Graham Felton
Hi I have a resin surface driveway. The stones are coming loose more often. Could you tell me what sealer I would need and the best application kind regards Graham

Hi Graham

The only sealers I ever recommend using on Resin bound stone are our water based sealers (linked below). Solvent based sealers, if over applied can cause the resin bound stone to lift and ultimately break up, using the water based you will never have this issue, regardless of how much you apply. https://www.advancedsealingsolutions.co.uk/Water-Based-Sealer-Gloss.html https://www.advancedsealingsolutions.co.uk/Water-Based-Sealer-Matt.html Drew Palin

Is it okay to seal if the surface is damp?

Adseal eXtreme Water Based Sealer eXtreme, our water-based acrylic/PU hybrid Sealer has been designed with a unique formula allowing it to be applied onto damp surfaces. Modern water based hybrids are very hard wearing and Eco friendly – safe, non hazardous, low odour, etc.. It's all in the formula and with clever blending of a range of resins combined with years of practical experience we have developed a product that performs exceptionally well specifically for use on damp surfaces. Adseal Block Paving & Imprinted Concrete Sealer SP If you are worried about a shower arriving later in the day, then try Adseal SP a  solvent based sealer designed to be less susceptible to rain spotting than other sealers. Again it’s all in the formula plus years of practical experience, enabled us to develop a product that provides outstanding performance and has an exceptional ability to cope with rain spotting – we have many anecdotal reports of rain showers arriving either shortly after or just before sealing is finished and there being literally no sign of rain spotting – and if there is it’s simple to remove it. What if it rains unexpectedly during sealing?

Can I apply sealer if it is forecast to rain that day?

Clearly avoid rain if you can but, because rain can catch you unawares you should be using one of these two. Adseal Block Paving & Imprinted Concrete Sealer SP A solvent based sealer designed to be less susceptible to rain spotting than other sealers. Adseal eXtreme Water Based Sealer The other option is using our water-based acrylic/PU hybrid Sealer with a unique recipe allowing it to be applied onto damp surfaces – such as just after a rain shower Modern water based hybrids are very hard wearing and Eco friendly – safe, non hazardous, low odour, etc..
