Sealing dusty concrete

This question was asked by - Jerry S
I have recently laid some concrete which will ultimately be an indoor storage area. The concrete had rain on it while still wet and the finished screed has an unstable surface as the surface cement has washed out. What do you think I should use to seal the concrete surface with so as to give a dust free, hard wearing finish?

Before sealing you need to make sure all the loose surface is removed, this can be done by either pressure washing (ideally with a flat surface attachment, grinding and washing or using the Eco acid (link below).

Once you have got the surface prepped you can then seal it, I would recommend our Super Plus sealer (link below). https://www.advancedsealingsolutions.co.uk/Block-Paving-and-Imprinted-Concrete-Sealer-SP.html http://www.advancedsealingsolutions.co.uk/EcoAcid.html Drew Palin

Sealer for concrete tegular blocks and Indian natural stone paving.

This question was asked by - Colin J Moss
I have recently had a new tarmac drive laid which is edged with concrete tegular blocks and kerbs. I have also had a new patio laid in natural Indian stone. I am looking for a sealer which will treat both surfaces and provide a slight sheen finish. Can you please advise me which single product will treat both surfaces.

I have attached a link below to the Stone and Slate protector, this sealer is designed to work on Natural stone as well as concrete based products.

Why Is Sealing Important & Why Do I Need It?

Sealing a surface, especially your driveway is beneficial in the long run, as it provides a protective coating for your tarmac, block paving, stone and concrete. Just as rust proofing is advantageous for vehicles, driveway sealing protects your driveway’s surface from wear & tear.

What quantity of sealants will I require for sealing my driveway?

This all depends on how porous the paving is, but as a general rule of thumb for applying 2 coats a 25ltr drum will cover approx: block paving 50m per drum: pattern imprint 70m2: flags/slabs 70m2 and tarmac 65m2. These are approximate guidelines only and actual figures may vary.

Hardening a garage floor

This question was asked by
- Grant Wilde

Hi, looking to seal a residential concrete garage floor which is constantly dusting and so soft it can be scratched easily with a metal object or even the sole of my shoes. Ideally it could be applied quickly and easily to half the garage at a time, so I don't have to pull all the stuff out at once! Would the nano-lithium be suitable? Thanks.

No the Lithium densifier is for use when polishing, it will have little affect on a normal concrete slab.

What you will be best of doing, if you can, give the floor a really good jet washing to remove the loose surface material and then seal the concrete, this will stop the surface from dusting again.

Staining a new driveway

This question was asked by - Mrs Vanessa J Warren
We have just had a driveway done and the flags are too light in colour (I like them when they are wet!) Looking to darken them up in a grey but need to know exact colour and maybe try them out first (I have spare flags to test on)

If the flags look ok when they are wet then all you need to do is apply a sealer, this will leave the flags looking like they do when they are wet and it will protect them from stains and general wear and tear.

I have linked a couple of products below (you didn't say if they were concrete or natural stone flags) the first one is for concrete surfaces and the second is for stone. Block Paving & Imprinted Concrete Sealer SP (BPCSP) Stone & Slate Protector (SSP) Drew Palin

Preparation and sealing of block pave drive

This question was asked by - Paul Hodgetts
I have a large drive that I jet wash each year however each year the drive needs to be re-done as the blocks are becoming more discoloured and have moss around them. can you recommend a sealant I should apply to improve the finish of the drive, reduce the discolouring and keep the moss at bay?

Most people don't realise that jet washing paving regular is very bad for the surface, jet washing accelerates wear effectively reducing the lift span of the paving, as well as this is makes the surface rougher which is better for moss and algae, allowing them to get a better hold on the surface and finally, jet washing when the sand isn't sealed can remove too much sand and over time will start to affect the sub base which can cause the block to become unseated and become unstable.

I always recommend the people seal their paving as it helps to reduce the moss and algae build up and protects the surface which means it will last much longer before it needs to be replaced. The sealer I always use and recommend for block paving is our Block paving and imprinted concrete SP sealer (link below), this sealer will give you the best protection and give the best finish. Concrete waterproofer

This question was asked by - Andrew Morris
We have cast a garage base 2 weeks ago alas labourer forgot admixture so looking for a penetrating concrete sealer as a waterproofer from rising damp, therefore can you recommend any of your sealers to fill the voids ?

Pretty much any of the sealers will help to stop damp, I have put links to 2 different products, the first is our most popular solvent based sealer for concrete surfaces, the second is a water based based option (no harmful chemicals or strong smell).

Either will be fine to use. Block Paving & Imprinted Concrete Sealer SP (BPCSP) Water Based Sealer Gloss (WB34) Drew Palin

Drive sealant

This question was asked by - Steve Wilde
I’ve just had a new block paved drive laid and I’m wanting to seal it. It’s 130sq.m. and it will have 2 cars and a caravan on it on a regular basis. I’m wanting to proof it from oil leaks and stains but also enhance the colour to a sort of a ‘wet look’ without making it look too glossy. What do you recommend?

I would recommend using the Block paving SP sealer this will do what you are looking for, I would suggest getting 2 x 25 ltrs and 1 x 20 ltrs to complete the job.

Product information + product coverage M2

This question was asked by - Graham Skeer
Existing pattern imprinted concrete requires new lease of life. What product do you recommend. Current use is driveway parking taking 3.5 ton truck. Current colour is a Gold colour which we would like to keep. Need quick drying product as we have dogs which require going out for walks. Do you require a photograph? What is budget cost of approximately 50m2

I would recommend using the Super plus version of the concrete sealer,(link below) it will last longer than the standard version and will cope with the heavy truck better. this sealer is usually dry enough to walk on after 2 hours (depending on temperature), 20 litres will be enough to cover 50m2.

Product Recommendation

This question was asked by - Conrad Lidgett
I have just cleaned and re-sanded a driveway made of Tegula blocks. I'd like to be able to seal the drive with something that will bring out the colours in the Tegula block but don't want to end up with a wet look. Could you recommend a seal that will give the result I'm after?

For what you are looking for I would recommend using the Concrete and block paving sealer, (link below) this will bring out the colours and give a satin type finish.

Is it okay to seal if the surface is damp?

Adseal eXtreme Water Based Sealer eXtreme, our water-based acrylic/PU hybrid Sealer has been designed with a unique formula allowing it to be applied onto damp surfaces. Modern water based hybrids are very hard wearing and Eco friendly – safe, non hazardous, low odour, etc.. It's all in the formula and with clever blending of a range of resins combined with years of practical experience we have developed a product that performs exceptionally well specifically for use on damp surfaces. Adseal Block Paving & Imprinted Concrete Sealer SP If you are worried about a shower arriving later in the day, then try Adseal SP a  solvent based sealer designed to be less susceptible to rain spotting than other sealers. Again it’s all in the formula plus years of practical experience, enabled us to develop a product that provides outstanding performance and has an exceptional ability to cope with rain spotting – we have many anecdotal reports of rain showers arriving either shortly after or just before sealing is finished and there being literally no sign of rain spotting – and if there is it’s simple to remove it. What if it rains unexpectedly during sealing?

Can I apply sealer if it is forecast to rain that day?

Clearly avoid rain if you can but, because rain can catch you unawares you should be using one of these two.
